Purpose
Observation of fractures, dislocations, deformities, and other conditions of the bones and joints (DIP, PIP, MCP) of the fingers.

Prior confirmation
Confirm the purpose of the examination.
Remove any obstacles such as rings or watches.
Confirm which side to examine.

Positioning

Sitting position.
Place the hand palm-down parallel to the cassette. (Use a positioning block if necessary.)
Align the long axis of the finger with the long axis of the cassette.
Slightly separate each finger.

CR, distance, field size
CR : Direct the X-ray perpendicular to the examination site (or PIP).
Distance : 100cm
Field size : The range should include from the fingertip to the middle phalanx.

Exposure condition
45kV / 3mAs

Ensure that there is no soft tissue overlap between each finger.
Verify that the DIP, PIP, and MCP joints are open.
Confirm that the range from the fingertip to the middle phalanx is included.
Check that the proximal depression of the metacarpal bone is symmetrical and that the fingers are in the correct orientation.
Ensure that the X-ray center is visible from all four edges of the field of view.

Seated position.
AP : Place the little finger down and flex the thumb parallel to the cassette.
(Use positioning blocks if necessary.)
PA : Internally rotate the arm and place the back of the first finger on the cassette.
Align the target area (or MCP) with the center of the cassette.
Make sure the long axis of the finger is parallel to the long axis of the cassette.
Keep the other fingers open so that they do not overlap.

Distance : 100cm
Field size : The range should include from the fingertip to the middle phalanx.

Ensure that the distal concavity of the metacarpal bone is symmetrical and the finger is in a neutral position.
Confirm that the X-ray center can be seen from the four edges of the irradiation field.
